What is Eye Twitching?
Have you ever experienced eye twitching, where your eye flutters?
Facial spasms mainly refer to the twitching or fluttering of muscles around the eyelids, under the eyes,

or the mouth and cheekbones
involuntarily.
You might have experienced the under-eye twitching occasionally,
and in most cases, it disappears quickly.
However, if the twitching doesn't subside easily and persists over time,
it can lead to severe symptoms such as facial muscle paralysis and reduced facial sensation.
Now, let's delve into the various causes of eye twitching.
We will explore them in detail.

1. Stress
The primary cause of eye twitching
is often attributed to stress or fatigue,
which leads to an electrolyte imbalance.

Electrolytes play a crucial role in muscle contraction and relaxation.
Strenuous exercise or

excessive sweating
can disrupt the electrolyte balance.

Furthermore, kidney dysfunction or
thyroid abnormalities

can also contribute to electrolyte imbalances.

2. Magnesium and Lutein Deficiency
Eye twitching can sometimes be caused by iron, magnesium,
or lutein deficiency.
It's suggested that these deficiencies can lead to eye twitching symptoms.

3. Hemifacial Spasm (Facial Nerve Neuropathy)
In rare cases, eye twitching can become rhythmic and pulsating.
This can be due to hemifacial spasm, where the facial nerve is compressed by a blood vessel.
It can cause eye twitching.

In such cases, surgery might be necessary.

This occurs when a normal blood vessel compresses the facial nerve, leading to an overexcited state,

which manifests as twitching.
It often occurs when experiencing severe tension or mental stress,

when feeling overwhelmed,
or due to physical exhaustion,

resulting in a state of nervous system imbalance.

Most cases of eye twitching occur when one's physical strength declines due to accumulated fatigue,
and it's a temporary phenomenon that anyone can experience.
Many people have likely experienced spasms around the eyes at some point.

Especially, individuals who are easily excited or
shy are more prone to experiencing it.

While brief spasms are usually not a cause for concern,

persistent spasms that last for several days and are bothersome are problematic.

Initially, the spasms may be confined to the eye area,

but they can quickly spread to the cheek,

and sometimes even shift from one cheek to the other,

resulting in both cheeks twitching simultaneously.

When spasms occur,

no matter how much you press or pinch your face,
they don't easily stop.
In such cases, foot care can be helpful.

For foot care,

1. Relieve the Celiac Plexus
Since it's a concentration point of the sympathetic nervous system,
it's exceptionally beneficial for calming the mind.

The celiac plexus
is located in the center of the sole of the foot, resembling a round circle.
Gently scraping this area with a wooden stick

will allow you to feel rough granules
moving beneath your touch.
You can either scrape it with a stick or massage and manipulate it with your hands.

2. Trigeminal Nerve Ligament
This refers to the upper part of the big toe, closer to the big toe, between the big toe and the second toe.
This area typically doesn't cause significant pain.
However, for individuals with severe facial spasms, it can be quite painful, even bringing tears to their eyes.
When it's severe, repeatedly pressing the indented areas at the outer corners of both eyes
using both thumbs
can be effective.

As a preventive measure, regularly massaging the earlobes

and the back of the ears is beneficial,
and most importantly, ensuring sufficient rest to prevent physical fatigue accumulation by getting a good night's sleep is crucial.
